Hi Diggy!

How Does The Wind Know where To Go?

D

Diggy

Hmm.

D

Diggy

It's windy today.

D

Diggy

Not super windy.

D

Diggy

Just windy enough to make the grass sway a little.

D

Diggy

And the leaves.

D

Diggy

And my fur.

D

Diggy

I spent ten minutes trying to make my fur look neat this morning.

D

Diggy

The wind undid all of it in about three seconds.

D

Diggy

That's impressive, honestly.

D

Diggy

But it got me wondering...

D

Diggy

How does the wind know where to go?

D

Diggy

This morning it was in the trees.

D

Diggy

I could hear it rustling the branches overhead.

D

Diggy

Then it was in the meadow.

D

Diggy

Then it was on the hill.

D

Diggy

Then it was behind me.

D

Diggy

Which was surprising, because I hadn't seen it move.

D

Diggy

It always seems to be traveling somewhere.

D

Diggy

Like it has a very important job to do.

D

Diggy

Maybe the wind has a map.

D

Diggy

Although that doesn't seem practical.

D

Diggy

Maps are made of paper.

D

Diggy

And paper would probably blow away.

D

Diggy

The wind would spend all day chasing its own directions.

D

Diggy

That sounds exhausting.

D

Diggy

Maybe the wind doesn't use a map.

D

Diggy

Maybe it has a schedule.

D

Diggy

"Let's see..."

D

Diggy

"Trees at nine."

D

Diggy

"Flowers at ten."

D

Diggy

"Scare a hedgehog at eleven."

D

Diggy

I don't think I'd like being on the schedule.

D

Diggy

The wind is very good at sneaking up on me.

D

Diggy

Sometimes I hear it coming.

D

Diggy

Sometimes I don't.

D

Diggy

And sometimes it arrives with a leaf.

D

Diggy

I never know where the leaf came from.

D

Diggy

Maybe the wind just likes collecting things.

D

Diggy

I do that sometimes.

D

Diggy

Not leaves.

D

Diggy

Mostly interesting rocks.

D

Diggy

Although if I'm being honest, some of them aren't very interesting.

D

Diggy

They're just rocks I found first.

D

Diggy

Maybe the wind is like that too.

D

Diggy

Maybe it travels around looking for interesting places.

D

Diggy

A tall hill.

D

Diggy

A forest.

D

Diggy

A field full of wildflowers.

D

Diggy

A little path through the woods.

D

Diggy

If I were the wind, I'd want to see all those things too.

D

Diggy

I like exploring.

D

Diggy

Even if I don't always know where I'm going.

D

Diggy

Actually, especially then.

D

Diggy

Some of the best things I've found were things I wasn't looking for.

D

Diggy

A patch of blueberries.

D

Diggy

A stream.

D

Diggy

A really nice log.

D

Diggy

And once a mud puddle.

D

Diggy

That wasn't my favorite discovery.

D

Diggy

Maybe the wind doesn't know where it's going either.

D

Diggy

Maybe it just keeps moving.

D

Diggy

Seeing what's around the next corner.

D

Diggy

And the next one.

D

Diggy

And the next one after that.

D

Diggy

That sounds kind of nice.

D

Diggy

The world is a big place.

D

Diggy

There are a lot of things to see.

D

Diggy

There are a lot of things to see.

D

Diggy

A lot of paths to follow.

D

Diggy

Maybe the wind isn't trying to get somewhere.

D

Diggy

Maybe it just enjoys the journey.

D

Diggy

I think I understand that.

D

Diggy

Although...

D

Diggy

If I followed the wind all day, I'd probably end up lost.

D

Diggy

Again.

D

Diggy

Still...

D

Diggy

I think it might be worth it.
